The short version
- Ordinary visitors get no tracking or advertising cookies from this site.
- The few cookies we use are needed for logging in or commenting.
- If we ever add analytics or advertising cookies, we'll update this page and give you a way to opt out first.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Some are essential for a site to work; others remember preferences or measure how a site is used. We think you should know exactly which ones we use and why, and several US state privacy laws give you the right to opt out of tracking cookies. This site doesn't use any.

Third-party services
- Fonts: our typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. This sets no cookies, but your browser sends your IP address to Google to download the fonts.
- WhatsApp: when you tap a WhatsApp button you leave our site, and WhatsApp's own cookie and privacy policies apply.
- Embedded content: if a guide embeds a video or post from another website, that website may set its own cookies when the content loads.
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the cookies listed above won't stop you browsing this site; it only affects logging in and saved comment details.
